Edgbaston Turns Blue One Last Time for Bob
Today, Edgbaston will turn blue one final time as England take on India in the One-Day International, marking the final ever #BlueForBob Day.
The campaign, #BlueForBob: Six and Out, celebrates the life and legacy of Bob Willis – England fast bowling legend, much-loved Sky Sports broadcaster and one of cricket’s most iconic voices. More importantly, it celebrates the extraordinary impact that Bob’s legacy has had in the fight against prostate cancer.
Since the first Blue For Bob Day in 2021, the cricket community has come together, helping The Bob Willis Fund raise more than £2.2 million to fund pioneering research, raise awareness and improve the early diagnosis of prostate cancer.
Following Bob’s death from prostate cancer in 2019, Blue For Bob was created to celebrate his life while helping to change the future for other families affected by the disease.
Reflecting on the final campaign, Lauren Clark, Bob’s wife and Co-Founder of The Bob Willis Fund, said:
“Blue For Bob began as a way to celebrate Bob and to try to stop other families from suffering like we have. The support from cricket fans, players, Edgbaston, Sky and Bob’s friends has been overwhelming. This final year is our chance to say thank you, to celebrate everything the Fund has achieved, and to ask people to give one last time to help save a life like Bob’s.”
Today’s match is a celebration not only of Bob’s incredible contribution to cricket, but also of the lives that can be changed through earlier diagnosis of prostate cancer. England Men’s white-ball captain, Harry Brook said:
“Blue For Bob is a really special occasion for everyone involved in English cricket. Bob Willis is a huge part of the game’s history, and it means a lot to the players to be part of this final tribute. Prostate cancer affects so many men and families, and if today helps even one more person speak to someone, get checked or act earlier, then that is a powerful legacy.”
The campaign has received unwavering support from across the game. Richard Thompson, Chair of the England and Wales Cricket Board, paid tribute to Bob’s lasting influence:
“Bob Willis gave so much to English cricket, both as a player and as one of the game’s great voices. The Bob Willis Fund has turned his legacy into something with real purpose, helping raise awareness and support research into earlier and more accurate diagnosis of prostate cancer. We are proud to support this final Blue For Bob and to help ensure Bob’s contribution continues to be felt far beyond the boundary.”
Edgbaston has proudly hosted Blue For Bob since the campaign began, and Warwickshire County Cricket Club Chief Executive, Stuart Cain reflected on the significance of today’s event:
“Bob was one of our own, so it is very fitting that Edgbaston is the place where Blue For Bob has become such a special part of the cricket calendar. Seeing the ground turn blue has always been emotional, but this final year feels especially significant. We are proud to host the last Blue For Bob day and to help give Bob the send-off this campaign deserves.”

A legacy that will continue
The Bob Willis Fund has focused much of its work on improving earlier and more accurate diagnosis of prostate cancer, the most common cancer in men. The Fund has supported pioneering research into new testing approaches, including work on genetic risk, advanced imaging and diagnostic tools designed to help identify aggressive cancers earlier and reduce unnecessary procedures.
The aim is simple: to help more men get diagnosed earlier, when treatment is more effective and lives are more likely to be saved.
As the cricketing community comes together for one final Blue For Bob, we want to say thank you to every supporter who has worn blue, donated, fundraised, shared our message and stood alongside us over the past six Blue for Bob days.
