Fundraising in aid of The Bob Willis Fund

A simple guide for our friends and supporters

We are incredibly grateful to anyone who chooses to raise money in Bob’s name.

Since the Fund was established, friends, cricket clubs, businesses, schools and individuals have done extraordinary things to support our work. That generosity has helped us raise awareness of prostate cancer and fund research into earlier and better diagnosis.

As The Bob Willis Fund moves into its next chapter, we still want people to be able to fundraise in Bob’s name. We are a small, family-led fund, however, so we need to be clear about what we can provide and what sits with you as the fundraiser.

What we can provide

Where we have agreed to support your fundraising, we will:

  • Give you permission to say that you are “fundraising in aid of The Bob Willis Fund”.
  • Provide an approved Bob Willis Fund logo and basic brand guidance for your agreed activity.
  • Share existing information, images and fundraising materials where we have them available.
  • Provide agreed wording about Bob, the Fund and the work your fundraising will support.
  • Help you set up the most appropriate way of donating or fundraising directly for the Fund.
  • Do our best to acknowledge and support your activity through our channels where appropriate and where capacity allows.
  • Be available for occasional questions and advice as you develop your plans.
  • Promotion through our social media, website, media contacts or partners.

We love hearing how fundraising is progressing, so please keep us updated and send us photographs and stories from your event.

What we ask of you

Your fundraising remains independently organised in aid of, rather than on behalf of, The Bob Willis Fund. This means you are responsible for organising and running the activity, including any costs, permissions, insurance, licences, health and safety requirements and other legal obligations that may apply. This reflects standard charity fundraising practice.

We also ask that:

  • Any use of our name or logo is agreed with us in advance.
  • Fundraising is carried out safely, legally and in a way that reflects positively on Bob and the Fund.
  • Donors are told clearly where their money is going. If you are raising money for more than one charity, please make the split clear.
  • Wherever possible, donations are made through an agreed fundraising page so that funds come directly to the Fund.
  • Any money collected separately is passed to the Fund promptly following the activity.
  • Fundraising costs are covered separately and are not deducted from donations unless this has specifically been agreed with us beforehand.

The Fundraising Regulator recommends that charities make exactly these responsibilities clear for independent “in aid of” fundraising, including arrangements for transferring money and responsibility for the event itself.

What we can’t promise

Because The Bob Willis Fund is now operating differently and with limited ongoing resources, we can’t provide the level of hands-on event management we may have in the past.

In particular, we cannot guarantee:

  • Attendance by members of Bob’s family, ambassadors or Fund representatives.
  • Bespoke design, event management or ongoing fundraising support.
  • PR, celebrity or cricketing introductions.
  • Funding or underwriting of event costs.
  • Insurance or liability for your activity.
  • The ability to enter contracts or commercial arrangements connected with your event without separate prior agreement.

Most importantly…

Please enjoy it!

Some of the most memorable moments in the Fund’s story have come from people deciding to do something they love, with people they care about, in Bob’s name. We want that spirit to continue.

Thank you for choosing to support The Bob Willis Fund and for helping Bob’s legacy continue to make a difference.
