Ron’s March Reaches £100,000 Milestone for Prostate Cancer
The Bob Willis Fund would like to say a huge thank you to Ron Hedley for his incredible fundraising efforts, which have now helped raise more than £100,000 through the Ron’s March campaign.
The milestone was reached on Friday 4th September 2026, marking an extraordinary achievement in Ron’s ongoing campaign to raise awareness of prostate cancer and the importance of regular testing.
All funds raised through Ron’s March go towards supporting key prostate cancer projects through Prostate Cancer UK.
What began as a series of walks bringing together former and current England cricket seniors has grown into a nationwide campaign, with 46 walks taking place across England and Wales over the past four years.
A memorable August
August was a particularly successful month for Ron’s March.
On 7th August, Leicestershire County Cricket Club’s Over 60s and Over 70s teams hosted their first England Cricket Seniors Walk. More than 30 walkers took part and the walk has raised an incredible £5,300, making it the most successful fundraising walk of the campaign so far.
Ron and Pat would like to thank event organiser David King, the Leicestershire hosts and the Buckinghamshire & Bedfordshire players who travelled to support the event. Particular thanks go to Malcolm Butcher, who came up with the idea for the historic route, carried out the research and produced the maps for the walkers.
Taking the message to a national audience
The campaign also reached a much wider audience in August when Ron, Pat and Katie Willis featured on BBC One’s Songs of Praise on 9th August.
The programme highlighted Ron’s campaign and the importance of prostate cancer awareness and regular testing, helping to take the message to a national audience.
£100,000 reached in September
The £100,000 milestone was reached following a fantastic fundraising evening at Winchmore Hill Cricket Club on 4th September, where guests enjoyed an Indian meal prepared by Over 70s cricketer Channi Sethi, alongside musical entertainment from Bucks CCC Over 70s cricketer Larry Warr.
The evening raised a further £1,340, taking the total raised through Ron’s March beyond the incredible £100,000 mark.
For the Bob Willis Fund, this is about much more than the money raised. Ron’s March has helped keep the conversation around prostate cancer going within cricket clubs and communities across the country, encouraging men to think about their health and consider whether they should be tested.
And, through the funds raised for Prostate Cancer UK, the campaign is also helping to support important projects aimed at improving understanding, diagnosis and outcomes for men with prostate cancer.
Still marching on
The campaign continues, with further walks planned in the coming weeks.
Southampton – Friday 25th September
Hosted by Hampshire CCC and the Hampshire Over 60s and Over 70s at The Utilita Bowl. Walkers will meet at 9am and will also receive tickets for the County Championship match against Sussex CCC.
Truro – Friday 2nd October
Organised by Cornwall CCC Over 60s and Over 70s, the walk starts at 4pm from Skinner’s Brewery in Truro before finishing back at the brewery for food, drinks and live entertainment from the Truro Male Voice Choir.

£100,000 is an amazing milestone and a brilliant example of what the cricket community can achieve when it comes together to raise awareness and support vital prostate cancer projects.
